FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your educational philosophy in creating these courses?

First, I believe that there are not nearly enough secular high school options for homeschoolers. I started creating these courses and continually adding to them because I could not find what I, and my family, wanted in secular courses.

Second, I fully believe that homeschool families already spend enough on curriculum while striving to provide an enriching and solid education for their children. That is why I created these courses to be as inclusive as possible, with all required course books included whenever possible. Some lab-based science courses do require additional materials, but I have worked hard to ensure that these materials are not overwhelmingly expensive. Most courses offer multiple project options with varying material requirements, allowing families to choose what best fits their budget and resources.

I also believe that we live in a digital world and that future success depends, at least in part, on being comfortable with technology. While I understand that not every family wishes to fully embrace every technological advancement, I do believe that helping students develop confidence in navigating the modern digital landscape can be a significant advantage for their future.

Above all, I wanted to create courses that are adaptable to the wide variety of schedules and learning styles found within homeschool families. These courses are designed to be moderately rigorous for families seeking a college-preparatory approach, while remaining flexible enough to be adapted to different educational goals, schedules, and learning needs.

You say that you do not believe in censoring much in the way of the world. Does that mean your courses contain graphic content?

No. While it is true that I raised and homeschooled my own children with very little censorship and believe in addressing difficult topics directly, none of these courses are written with graphic content.

Many courses and resources do discuss sensitive, complex, or challenging subjects because they are important parts of history, science, literature, civics, and the world we live in. However, the materials are presented in an age-appropriate educational context and are generally not graphic in nature.

The goal is to encourage critical thinking, discussion, and analysis rather than to shock or sensationalize difficult topics.

Do I need to buy additional books with these courses?

No. These courses are designed to be as all-inclusive as possible.

There are optional books suggested throughout some courses for students who wish to explore topics more deeply, but these books are not required to complete the course. Most suggested titles are readily available through public libraries or free online resources.

Are there additional materials needed for these courses?

Most non-science courses require very few additional materials beyond basic school supplies.

Science courses include hands-on labs and therefore have a list of materials needed to complete those activities. In many cases, these materials are common household items or can be easily purchased from local stores at a reasonable cost.

Many science courses also include online lab options that require only a computer, internet access, and the course lab booklet, which is included with the course.

Do you use AI?

The ideas, curriculum design, and course content are my own. I created most of these courses myself over more than 20 years of homeschooling experience. Some courses were developed collaboratively with two other homeschooling mothers.

Over the past year—and continuing into the future—I have been updating and modernizing these courses to better reflect the digital world students live in today.

I do utilize AI as a tool for formatting, organization, and visual presentation. AI helps make the courses more visually appealing, easier to navigate, and more user-friendly. However, the educational content, course concepts, assignments, and overall curriculum structure originate from my own experience and expertise.
