Online Safety: A Whole-Family Course in Digital Literacy, Security, and Judgment

FREE — No Cost to Your Family

The internet is a part of everyday life—and learning how to navigate it safely shouldn't be something only one member of the family learns.

Online Safety is a one-semester, 0.5-credit high school course designed to teach students the practical skills they need to use technology safely, responsibly, and confidently. Over 18 weeks, students explore everything from passwords, privacy, phishing, scams, and identity theft to cyberbullying, online relationships, misinformation, AI and synthetic media, algorithms, digital wellbeing, and building a lifelong digital safety plan.

But Homeschool Uncensored believes online safety is a family affair.

That's why this course goes beyond the high school student. The complete course includes three developmentally appropriate levels, allowing the entire family to learn about the same online-safety topics together:

🎓 High School — Grades 9–12

The fully graded 0.5-credit high school course includes:

  • 18 weeks of instruction
  • 18 weekly readings and worksheets
  • Applied "Do It" activities
  • Discussion questions
  • Midterm checkpoint
  • Complete grading rubrics
  • Capstone: Personal & Family Digital Safety Plan
  • High School Student's Guide
  • Answer booklet

📱 Ages 10–13

A complete supplemental program covering the same weekly topics at an age-appropriate level, with its own lessons, activities, worksheets, discussion questions, and answer key.

🧸 Ages 0–9

A parent-led supplement designed to introduce digital safety through conversations, modeling, activities, coloring, puzzles, scenarios, and simple safety language. Worksheets begin around age 4, while the youngest children can participate through read-aloud conversations and modeled habits.

👨👩👧👦 Built for Families

All three levels follow the same weekly topics, so your family can have meaningful conversations about online safety together—even when your children are different ages. The course includes a Parent's Guide for all three levels, a day-by-day course plan, discussion questions, three worksheet booklets, three answer booklets, rubrics, a glossary, family resource directory, technology agreement template, emergency quick-reference card, and certificate of completion.

And you do not need to be a technology expert to teach it. The course is specifically designed for homeschooling parents who aren't technology professionals, with the lessons written out in full.

❤️ Why Is It Free?

Because we believe safety information should be accessible to everyone.

Families have very different approaches to technology and screen time. Some children have extensive access to the internet, while others have very limited access. But eventually, most young people will need to navigate online banking, employment applications, college resources, financial accounts, medical records, communication, and countless other aspects of adult life.

Fluency with technology isn't the same thing as safety—and avoiding technology isn't the same thing as being prepared for it.

We created this course so families don't have to choose between expensive curriculum and going without practical online-safety education.

There is nothing to buy. There is no subscription. There is no required paid textbook. The required cost of this course is $0.

🌐 A Different Approach to Online Safety

This isn't a fear-based course designed to convince students that the internet is a dangerous place.

Instead, students learn how things work, why risks exist, how to recognize them, and what to actually do when something goes wrong. The course also recognizes the enormous benefits technology provides and teaches students how to develop a healthy, sustainable relationship with it.

Online safety is a skill. Digital judgment is a skill. And every young person deserves the opportunity to learn both.
